Click on the New or Edit menu item or button to add a new hotkey or to edit the selected hotkey. A window will be shown where you must define the following:
Description: Give your hotkey a good description.
Command: Click on the drop down arrow on the right of the edit box to choose one of the default commands.
Parameter: Depending on which command you chose you must add a parameter. (Not all the commands needs a parameter. Some commands will require you to choose from various options which will be displayed in the parameter tab.
Start In: With some applications you can specify the folder / directory where the application must start in. This folder can be different from where the application itself is launched. This is useful for opening files with an application that are located in a different folder.
Define a Username & Password to login into your favorite website or program by using a hotkey. Some internet sites or programs require you to login. By using a login hotkey it will fill in the username & password for you automatically.
Window State: When opening a new file, folder or program you can specify in which window state the program should be opened. The window state could be normal, maximized, minimized or hidden.
Category: Select or specify a category for your hotkey. By doing this it will categorize your hotkeys in the main hotkey window. Just type in the category the first time and next time you can select it from the list.
Hotkey: Click on the hotkey panel and press the keyboard keys that you want to use for executing the command. The text will change to RED to indicate that you should record your key presses for this hotkey by pressing a key combination on your keyboard. For the moment HotKeyz only supports the normal qwerty keys.
Hotkey works with? Sometimes you want a hotkey to be application specific. In other words the hotkey should only execute when a certain application has focus and it's title matches the words you type in here. Or you can prevent a hotkey from executing when in a certain application has focus thus making it work in all others. Some applications have build in keyboard shortcuts and if your hotkey overrides theirs then you can have your hotkey excluded when using that specific application.
Show a confirmation dialog when executing this hotkey? Click on this check box to have a dialog asking you to confirm executing the hotkey. After you saved the hotkey and use it later, HotKeyz will show an execute confirmation dialog window. This is a nice way to learn your hotkeys at first and to make sure that you don't execute the wrong hotkey when pressing keys on your keyboard.
Execute this hotkey when HotKeyz starts?: Click on this check box to have HotKeyz execute this command when it starts.
Click on the OK button to go back to the main screen. Or click on the Cancel button to cancel any changes made to this hotkey.
You can now test your hotkey by pressing the hotkey combination on your keyboard or right click on the hotkey in the list view and select Execute. |
